There are inherent challenges in transracial adoption. I think it's important for people to know that. Depending on your particular situation with your family and your community, I think the challenges will vary. For my wife and I, we looked at what we thought would be the tolerance profile of our community, our family, and where we lived; and decided that transracial was the right decision for us. I think it's important that everybody do so. On an everyday basis, I think transracial families face a greater level of transparency. I think people notice your family make up a lot easier. That lends itself to being asked a lot more questions, very often in front of your child about your family make up. Those questions, at least at this point, we've come to a point that we are prepared with answers that are most consistent and true for our family. As our child gets older, we want to make sure we are incorporating him into that process, letting us know how he thinks those questions should be answered with respect to his comfort level. There is a great book called, "Wise Up Power Book," that helps children tackle those questions they may face about their family make up. I would really recommend that book.
