Some of the most relevant role models for mixed race kids today would be president Barack Obama, Soledad O’Brien who’s a CNN news anchor and I like Rashida Jones, the actress, and I love telling my daughter how much she looks like Rashida Jones. They have the same hazel eyes, the same freckles, the same skin color. I particularly identify with Jennifer Beals, because when Flash Dance came out, we were the same age and America fell in love with that movie, they fell in love with her and for the first time I felt like there was a girl out there who resembled me and I resembled her. We were the same age. And I really feel a connection to her. And that was important for me. It was the first time that it ever happened to me.
