When we think about going green, many of us also think about going to the farmer's market. But there are things to consider when you're talking about making a trip. One is that not all of the food in a farmer's market is organic. So you definitely need to have that conversation with the farmer and make sure that they're not spraying their crops with pesticides or insecticides. Whereas in a regular market you can just look for that USDA Certified Organic seal. But the farmer's market, while it may not necessarily be a choice that you're making in terms or organic and not organic, it is a better choice in terms of the big picture. So when you're buying from a local farmer, when you're buying sustainably, especially sustainably from a local farmer, that farmer is selling directly to you. There's no big shipping container, there's no big packaging, there's not a lot of plastic. You're really avoiding a lot of those things that contribute to global warming, for example. So that can be a choice to really factor in. But really do your homework. Talk to your farmer and make sure that what you're choosing is the best food for your family.
