It took a while to get back to a normal parent/child relationship after my son finished cancer treatment. We had spent a lot of time together in the hospital. He had gone through something very difficult. It had been terrifying. It had been frightening. There is a time when you have to put that aside and realize that you are okay. That didn't happen right away. I think the more time that passed after treatment, the easier it got. My son's hair grew back. He gained weight. The color in his face returned to a more healthy glow. He was able to go back to school. These were all indicators that life was getting back to normal. I think the day when I found myself yelling at him because his socks were on the floor, that was the day that I officially knew that things were back to normal.
