Parents approach me with this question: If I'm having a play date at my house and another kid is aggressive to my child, what do I do because it's not my kid? I'm very clear that when they are at your house, you are the parent because it is your house and your parenting. Just like if your child is at someone else's house, you have to respect the other parent's ways of managing behavior from their role. If you see behavior that is uncomfortable for you, you need to jump in and tell that child that that behavior has crossed the line. We don't do that in our house. You do it nicely, calmly, and without anger. You just have to tell them that we don't share that way. We don't get mean. We don't get aggressive. You just show them that there is another way to do this. It's totally appropriate to parent the way you are comfortable with in your own home.
