Studies showed that parents that have small children have higher rates of divorce, have higher rates of affairs and it’s understandable. When you have small children, it’s so physically demanding. A night of sleep is so precious, that you think it doesn’t even exist anymore. I hate the answer that everyone gives, make time for your marriage, go out on a date night, if you have a time of course you’ll go out on a date night but you don’t have the time, that’s the most ridiculous answer. What worked for me was when I realized I want to parent my children the best I possibly can and what I really want to give them is the ability to have great relationships. When I model a great relationship with my husband, call him my best friend, love him publicly, give him kisses, teach them how to relate with another human being, that’s parenting them; but it’s also a parenting in a way that I really envisioned myself parenting and giving them skills. Think of it as a twofer, you’re parenting them but you are also giving them what you really want for them, an ability to have great relationships.
