Statistically, the good news is that stranger abductions are decreasing. Over the last ten years, significantly decreased. We still have to tell our kids how to be in the world when we are not with them. For example, if they are out riding bikes or walking to and from school, simple things like, "Safe grownups don't ask you for help." If anybody asks you to do anything, whether it's a lost pet or help carrying a package for them, carry something to their car. The simple answer is, "Sorry, can't help you." Cut that conversation and get away fast. The next thing you can tell kids, no matter how nice somebody seems, don't get in the car with them, don't take anything from them, don't walk off with them. A stranger is not going to appear scary. A stranger is going to look friendly and charming. That's what tricks kids into going with them. Tell your kids, don't walk off with anyone or get in a car with someone they just met; no matter how nice they seem.
