Runaway and homeless children are a huge issue in the United States; between 2.8 and 1.6 million runaway kids at any given day in America. By far the organization that has its pulse on this issue is the National Runaway Switchboard. They have somewhere around 50,000 resources available in the United States to assist with this issue. They will purchase a bus ticket to get a child from any location in the United States back home. One of the problems that exists for runaway kids is that they become vulnerable to all kinds of threats, not the least of which is the threat of child prostitution. Where a child was within the norms of sexual development in their home, once they run away, they often find themselves having sex with ten, fifteen strangers a night and turning all the money from that over to a pimp. As far as the Runaway Switchboard, the next step is to support organizations like the Class Kids Foundation and the Polaris Project that help children who find themselves in the world of human trafficking. However, how do you do it? You offer them money. You contact them to see what you can do to volunteer for them and you promote them in your community.
