When you give your kids choices and often times there, the choices that you said. It gives them a little sense of control, like that they made the decision, like when they come in from the yard and its dinner time "Wash your hands," you can wash them in the kitchen sink, or you can wash them in the bathroom sink. You have the choice, do you want to lunch? You want peanut butter and sandwich or you want a tuna fish sandwich? You give them these little choices all through their years of growing up, so when they are older and when they make choices that you suggest it's not it doesn't come out of the blue like "Oh I have a choice, I have this choice or this choice." For instance "Hey where do you want to go to college, hey where do you want to go to school. What do you want to do tonight?" You sort of guide them in what they wanted to do. And I like to give my kids choices knowing that I have educated them, and disciplined them, to make the choices that fit within my little world of what I want of my children. What I think is appropriate and safe. I don't want to act controlling, but you want to give them a choice that fits in that, "you taught them already."
