It's important to establish routines and schedules with a 2 - 4 month old baby in order for the baby to know what to expect. We know that babies thrive, young children thrive as well on knowing what to expect. This helps them feel safe and it helps them feel confident in knowing what's coming. It also eases the skill development, especially around the issue of self-soothing, when they're going down for a nap and it's a regular occurrence. And when children are getting the sleep that they need, we know that they're better able to engage and explore in their world. And when we provide this framework for babies early on, it really sets up the limit-setting experience that comes down the road in the toddler experience.
