There will come a time when your tween girl comes to you and wants to highlight her hair, shave or wax her legs, or tweeze her eyebrows. How you deal with it is really going to set the stage for the future. First of all, stress to her that you think she looks beautiful the way she is. And also, that it's not just about the way she looks. Anything that is more permanent like coloring her hair, encourage her to wait until her hair is actually finalized on its color. But if it is something that's making her feel uncomfortable, look, lot of us really do have hairy legs. Now, when she gets to 10, 11, make sure that you help her find a method that she can continue to do. If it's shaving, then that's fine, but show her how to do it. If it's waxing, let her know that it's going to be kind of painful. But the most important thing is to talk to her about why she wants to do it. Not that she's not okay as she is, but she might want to feel a little more comfortable or experiment. Let her turn her hair pink for a day. And she may not feel the need to get highlights because she sees them on TV.
