One of the common questions parents have when formula feeding is about water. This is a good one because of the problems we see in Third World Countries or disaster situations and families are formula feeding, they have to deal with the fact that there are not safe water sources. Here in the First World, we live in a country where most water is safe from the tap. For newborns we want to be extra safe because we don't want to take extra precautions. You want to use distilled bottled water, not just any bottled water because even if they say bottled water, they are not necessarily purified to the extent that it reduces the bacteria in that water. Use distilled water or, if you want to do it in a more economical way, boil batches of water on your stove, let them cool on your counter, then put it in your refrigerator to use as you need. Formula is a breeding ground for bacteria. It loves formula. We want to reduce any chance of that bacteria getting in the formula. The safer your water, the safer your formula is.
