What divorced dads should bear in mind when thinking about dating. Number one is to go very, very slowly. You never want to introduce someone else into your child’s life until you really develop the relationship that you think maybe sustaining because you have to remember that children especially when they are young will always have the fantasy that the mother and father will get back together, although it might not be the reality. They will see someone else as a threat to your time with them. It’s very common for little girls to get jealous of a girlfriend or someone you’re dating. It’s very important, very important to always make them know they are number one. In my life, I call my daughter honey one and my wife number two. When we first started dating and she heard me say honey to my wife, I said, “Don’t worry honey, you’re the honey number one, that’s honey number two .” It’s always important to let them know that they are the number one girl in your life. No matter who comes in your life. It’s very important to be slow and gentle and careful when you introduce them and understand them that this is another woman buying for your love, and that the daughter sees it as a threat, so you have to never let that thought or feeling that they could take their love away from you.
