Right after birth, the midwife typically takes your newborn and places the baby on your chest for bonding and give you and the baby time to be together. Also, gives the time for the blood to go through the umbilical cord before clamping and cutting. After that, you may take a few minutes and try latching on with the baby. They will help you with that. Routinely, within a few moments, the midwife will perform the APGAR test. Also, weigh the baby and measure the baby. Make sure everything about the baby is functioning. That's it. It's pretty simple. It's very personal. It is all done at the bedside. You never have the baby out of your sight.
