In the world of adoption, we have something called Birth Mother's Day. It's the day before Mother's Day, and it's a day that families are reminded to sit down and talk about the story of their child's adoption. Life gets crazy and it's, maybe, not something that comes up every day. It's a reminder to sit down, maybe take out a scrapbook, and tell the story of how you became a family. It's a time to allow your child to ask questions because developmentally, as they get older, their questions will be different from year to year. It's a reminder to sit down and talk about it. It sends a message it's not taboo, it's something that you welcome, which is an important part of them being proud of their story. Some families use it as a date to have the visit or make an art project or make a homemade card for the birth mother, maybe do a video chat that day. It's a reminder to talk about this day that we are all very, very proud of the way we became a family. It's important that children grow up feeling like that.
