A few hypnotic techniques that can help mom through the birthing process would be things like having a physical anchor, or a physical cue. So a lot of times that means something as simple as touching your finger onto your leg, or touching your finger onto the bed next to you. And you’ve trained your mind, so that you know whenever you do that – whenever your finger drops down – you automatically, instantly, enter a very deep state of hypnosis, so you don’t need someone reading a script to you that takes forever. That’s just not applicable to a real life birthing situation. Additionally, having a word that you use that deepens your hypnosis, some people might use the word ‘peace’, other people think of their own words that in their mind connotates with relaxation. And when they say that to themselves or say it aloud or have somebody say that to them, it immediately instigates relaxation.

Mandy Schutt

Doula & Hypnosis Instructor

Mandy Schutt was backpacking around the world when she decided that she wanted to become a doula. As she floated through the Amazon Pampas with two European midwives, she was immediately captivated by their birth stories and the culture of womanhood that they spoke of. Traveling on through South America, Europe, and Asia, she was able to witness motherhood in a different light than she had before. When she ran across the term, "doula" for the first time, she knew this was a name she wanted to claim for herself!

Mandy looks at a woman's ability to grow another life inside of her as nothing short of a miracle. She supports women in their efforts to discover this for themselves and know that the act of giving birth is more than just an isolated event in a mother's life, it is realization of an empowerment that many never realized existed. She gave birth to her daughter in 2009, which was the single most amazing event of her life. Mandy believes that women should birth where and how they are the most comfortable and secure. Her safe place was in her home with a midwife, her husband, a doula, hypnosis, and a gorgeous pool of pain-dissolving water!
