A working parent has to be aware that attachment takes place with only one person, that one person being the person who spends the most time with the child. So if you are not going to be that person or your spouse is not going to be that person, then it becomes very important to carefully select the caretaker who is going to be that person. You want somebody that is going to be around for at least a year and a half, preferably three or four years or five years would be. You want someone who is going to be around for a long time. That is going to be important to your infant. And you want someone who is calm and focused themselves and will give your child that emotional connection. Lots and lots of people are capable of doing this. It is not like only a mother or father can forge an emotional connection to an infant. Many people have that ability. But you have to make sure that the person you hire, that you bring into your home to be this person is someone who is going to take that time, is going to be empathic, has the ability to be connected emotionally and will do that. Will not spend their time on a cellphone but will really be interacting with your infant.
