An assessment is a set of tools that are used by professionals to help determine if somebody has a problem. They also help to understand whether the person is lying, not quite telling the truth, minimizing their behavior. In addiction, we see that people either minimize or maximize their use or lack of use. It's a set of tools to help a professional to make sure they get a complete picture of the client, not just what the client is reporting. I think that's why it's important for us to seek people that specialize in addiction disorders, because they have a special set of tools to help you identify what the complete picture is.
