Communicating with your teen or tweenage daughter can sometimes be rough going. A raised eyebrow or a wrong sound in the wrong situation, can be taken as you being over-judgmental or nosy or naggy. What you don't want to do is think you are talking to a girlfriend and ask questions directly. It might sound like an inquisition. What you can do is schedule some time together and do it in an indirect fashion. Plan a trip that's pleasant. Maybe you take her to get her first manicure, or to get a pink berry. Maybe you go to a Farmer's Market every week. Eventually, if she softens up and realizes that you are really interested and will listen to her point of view without judging. She might open up to you.
