I think you really have to know your teenager. I think you have to know how his attitude has changed from day-to-day. What routines are they keeping? Are they coming in late every night? Who are they hanging out with? Have you had discussions with their peer's parents and what are their concerns? Does their clothing come home smelling like cigarettes or something else? Do they come home with glassy eyes? Are they getting in trouble at school? Have you seen their grades fall off? These are all warning signs that something is going on, whether it be drugs or something else. I will say that when I find a child who is really heading down the wrong road, I think it's important for some parents to take radical measures; even if that means pulling them out of the situation they are in and putting them in a new surrounding. Sometimes that means changing schools. Sometimes that means moving. You do what you have to do to help your child. If you try to fix a problem that is really broke in the environment where the problem was created, you're probably not going to have a lot of success.
