Women can give birth without using medications. There are many factors that come into how a woman is going to be successful doing this; I'd like to break it into two. One is a little bit of a mind over matter; you have to be mentally prepared. I say you have to be open-minded and accepting of whatever might come. But the second is the physical nature. You don't know what your pelvis is like, you don't know the size, the exact size of your baby, the position your baby may be in, all these are very important. I've seen women who claim they have very wide hips who can't deliver a small baby, and women with very narrow hips who deliver very large babies. So you have to have an open mind when approaching the delivery and the labor to try and do it successfully without pain medicine. But it can be done and has been done many times before.
