The best way to get through a long labor, is to move; to keep moving. A lot of times, when you get to the hospital, you are sort of being corralled into staying in a bed or staying on a monitor or IV. The best way to get through a long labor, is to make it not so long by moving because that brings you closer to having your baby. Walking around the halls, walking around the room whenever you can.
One of the options that I used is they have a heplock, so that you can have a vein if they it, but you are not tethered to an IV. You can move and go around the hospital, walk around the halls. Have your partner or whoever is with you, give you reassuring messages about what's happening.
Your body is doing what it's supposed to do. You're doing great. The baby looks great. One thing my husband said to me was, "Every contraction you have is another contraction closer to having our baby here, and you won't have to do this anymore."
The more reassured I felt, the less anxious I felt and the labor sped along.
