When you decide that you are going to have your kid play an instrument, as a parent, you need to figure out what the necessary steps are. You need to know how long the kid should play and what they should practice. Then you should have a discussion with your child that they have to play a certain amount of hours or minutes per day, and how long this is going to last. Will it last a semester? Will it last a year? During that time, if your kids says, "I don't want to practice." I would remind them of the commitment that they made and I would say, "Yes, you have to practice." You have to set a parameter with your kid first, before you would endeavor to tell them they have to practice everyday.
