When social networking sites become even more tricky, is when you have two children, an older one and a younger one. Your older one is on a social networking site and your younger wants to go in. Also what could be tricky is your child is friends with a friend who is their age, who has an older child, and that child is on social networking sites. Your child will want to go on social networking sites if they've got an older child, and you have to make the decision if you're going to allow them or not. One firm rule you should have is if you do allow - let's say you have a 10 year old and your 13 year old is on, if you decide to allow your child to go on, or have some sort of social networking privileges, is you cannot "friend" anyone older than you. The problem is if they "friend" someone older than them, they have exposure to all the social content that may not be appropriate for them, so you really want to make sure that they are only interacting with kids their age.
