A parenting coach is very much like a personal trainer. We all know we are supposed to exercise, but having a personal trainer there who can say, "Lift with your knees," and let us know if we are doing it right. Also, hold us accountable, is what's really key. Parent coaching is really much the same. It's about having somebody provide those tools and watch us as we put them in action. My job is, really, hold parents accountable. First of all, make sure they are putting those parenting tools into action effectively, but then holding them accountable for the changes they want to see. The result of that is parents that are really confident that they can respond to whatever is going on, whatever disruption, or bad behavior shows up. Really establish a strong sense of a family team, a family unit; and enjoying your kids. Really, life is short, and that's what it's really all about.
