The process of adopting through an agency involves attending the orientation, learning about the agency, filling out the application, sending in part of the fee amount, and being assigned a social worker. That social worker is going to see that that family is involved in a class where the family will learn more about adopt law, the adoption process, and about lifelong adoption issues. After that or concurrently with that, the family will be starting their home study process. That's the interviewing process where the social worker comes out and meets with the family or the person, because singles can adopt as well, one on one to really get to know the family; and to prepare them, through that process, into receiving a child into their home. Once the home study is completed, they are going to also do a profile that describes them as a family. It will include pictures. It will include information about their hobbies, their pastimes, any other children that are in the home. It's just a wonderful synopsis of who that family is. That's going to be presented to birth mothers to look at and to consider for selection. Families tell us that the hardest part, after that, is simply to wait. The family will not be waiting alone because the social worker will be there to support the family through that time.
