There is over 25 years of research of parenting by gay and lesbian individuals and couples; looking at the quality of their parenting and the outcomes for children. The research shows no detriment to children in their academic performance, in the possibility of clinical problems, in their general characteristics. Gay and lesbian parent show very positive qualities. In fact, they tend to promote more gallantarian values in their children, than heterosexual individuals. Perhaps a positive aspect of growing up in a gay or lesbian family. Children of gay and lesbian parents are occasionally teased because of their parent's orientation. They do learn to cope with it and there is no adverse outcomes for them because of this experience.

David Brodzinsky is Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology and Director of the Foster Care Counseling Project at Rutgers University. He also maintains an active private practice serving the clinical needs of children and families, including individuals who are part of the adoption triad. Brodzinsky has written and lectured extensively in the fields of developmental and clinical psychology and is an internationally known expert in the field of adoption. He is co-author of such well-known books as, The Psychology of Adoption, Being Adopted: The Lifelong Search for Self, and Children's Adjustment to Adoption: Developmental and Clinical Issues.
