There is no uniform law between schools, camps, daycare centers, even gymnastics schools or ice skating places or any of those extracurricular activities that require a uniform background check. Public schools have their own system. But there's no official system within any state of how a background check needs to be done. So as an educator, I encourage parents to conduct their own background checks. They should look at the people who are coming into school, meet with them, come drop by schools, come drop by summer camp, make their own spot checks. A school or program that doesn't allow parents to drop by whenever they want to is something that should raise a red flag. Schools should be open for parents to look and see what's going on. Schools should conduct thorough background checks, but so often they just don't. There's case after case where they don't, where teachers move before the record catches up with them. They change their names. So to rely on schools or any other place to conduct a background check is a huge mistake.

In addition to advising numerous legal foundations, Robin regularly shares her valuable insight and expertise through speaking and teaching with members of the FBI, Los Angeles Police Department, Sheriff’s Department, and the California District Attorney’s Association.
