The American Veterinarian Medical Association does not have any formal recommendations on pets sleeping with humans. However, we know that there is a very big animal/human bond that exists. Animals are used every day to help children with ADHD and Autism, with heart patients, to lower blood pressure, and decrease inflammatory mediators in their body. The positive effect of this animal/human bond, far outweighs the risks. These risks are zoonotic diseases that can be transmittable between animals and humans. However, routine veterinarian care; bathing, grooming, dental care, these can all help prevent these communicable diseases very easily. In general, if you have a healthy pet, you have a healthy family.
