If someone asks why your child looks so different than you, you need to be prepared for that question if you have mixed kids. The chances are that somebody will, at some point in front of your children, will ask you that question. It's happened to me. It's happened to me a lot with my son because has my skin color, but he has blue eyes. People, frequently, in front of him, will approach me and ask me, "Is he yours?" "Where did he get those blue eyes?" I find it offensive. They will direct the question to my son, as well, and he doesn't answer. I'm always polite because I am in front of my child, but I do find it offensive. I do respond to it. I tell them that the blue eyes came from my husband because that's the truth. But you need to be prepared. It can happen at any moment, in the supermarket, from a total stranger, out of the blue. They may direct it at your child. My son is used to it by now, but he never responds.
