The best way that you can support your child who is a single parent without really taking on all of their responsibility is to be in communication with them. The other thing is that you love them and I know that you want to do everything for them, but sometimes it’s better to stand back and allow them to be the parent and then you can provide them council at other times. My daughter, who is a single parent, it’s so beautiful for me to witness her, as my child, now having a child and raising him, my grandson, and allowing her to do that. She has her own way of being a parent and now I get the beauty of being able to be a grandparent as well. But it’s very, very important not to give advice to your single parent child in front of their child, because that can be very confusing to them. It’s better to honor them as a parent and allow them to be that parent. And then you can provide loving support when the child is not around.
