Painful urination is a super common complaint in my clinic and usually parents are worried that their child has Urinary Tract infection. The signs of Urinary Tract Infection are not only burning with urination but urgently, frequently kids are running to the bathroom they feel like they can't quite get all the urine out. They could also be associated with fever of vomiting if it is more serious. Painful urination in boys is very unusual and should always be checked out by a doctor. Painful urination in girls especially school age girls there may be going to the bathroom on their own can be a sign that there could be irritation just on the outside like vaginitis. If you were to see any redness or swelling in that area but your child has none of the other signs of Urinary Tract Infection, you could probably try to manage them at home first with frequent bathing, no soap just water, emollient cream or steroid cream if those things didn't work you should go see your doctor because it could be a sign of another infection like pin worms or bacterial infections.
