What can a family do given the higher prices of organic food? It is such an important question, and I think when you really step back, and you consider why organic food is more expensive, is because as a national family, with our national budget that we've all paid into as taxpayers, the food that's grown with all these chemicals and all of these genetically-engineered ingredients receive all kinds of financial support, and marketing support, and insurance support, while the farmers that are growing things organically are charged fees to prove that their products are safe. They are charged fees to then label it. So, their whole cost of production is higher. And clean and safe food that is free from these ingredients, and free from these chemicals that are increasingly shown to cause harm is a fundamental human right. And until that right is in place, there is so much that a family can do. I think it is so important to not make the "perfect" the "enemy of the good", and to do what you can, where you are, with what you have. And sometimes that might mean just eating a little bit less processed food. Sometimes that might mean making your noodles with olive oil or butter instead of that packet of artificial colors. Those changes are no different in cost, and they would require nothing different in a grocery store. You're not changing grocery stores. And to give yourself permission to do those little things one step at a time, until we can create these changes, so that all Americans can afford to eat food that is free from these chemicals that we know are causing harm.
