- Every baby teeths differently, but there are a few tried and trusted methods of soothing sore gums.

- Some of the signs and symptoms of teething are incessant drooling. They might be constantly putting their hands in their mouth, they might be increasingly fussy, irritable.

- There are thousands of teething toys on the market, but the truth is that a cold washcloth works really great for soothing those sore gums. You can ask your pediatrician about using Tylenol or Orajel for the really acute pain.

- Parents often want to know from their pediatrician or a family doctor whether it is safe to give acetaminophen, better known as Tylenol or Ibuprofen, better known as Motrin or Advil, to their infant or toddler. My approach with families is, number one, to indicate that both of those products are safe if given in the directed amounts and at the appropriate time intervals.

- But I also find that cold pureed baby food is great for an infant that's already transitioned to solids. And the most important thing to remember is that the acute pain only lasts for a few days, and that this, too, will pass.
