It's a really tough question of how to raise a spiritual child. I rely on this ancient piece of Jewish wisdom. You have two pockets. In one pocket, you put a small piece of paper, and you say, "I am but dust and ashes. I am nothing." And in the other pocket, you put, "I am but the center of the world." And the goal is that you walk with the awareness of both those pockets, every day of your life. When you model that for your children, you are really giving them this message: You are the most important thing in this world, but you are also one of many. Make your time count here. If you teach them that, no question, they will be very spiritual people.
