Baby acne happens within the first month after birth, as soon as the first few days, really. Because if you think about what the skin is going through, it's going from the amniotic fluid environment, pH of 7, to an air environment. And the skin needs to adjust to a pH of 5.5. And acne that affects skin likes to live at a higher pH. So as the skin reduces its pH and starts to modulate, regulate, and balance to an air environment, the opportunity for acne bacteria to grow becomes less and less. The best way to care for baby acne is to think about the washes you're using, making sure they're at the ideal of skin pH of 5.5, to not use too much water, because that has a pH of 7, to use a dechlorinator so that you're not adding chlorine and increasing the struggle of the skin to balance to the air environment, and to use lotions that will keep it hydrated, keep it healthy, help get it regulated to an air environment.
