The guidelines for postpartum rehabilitation for a mother of triplets vary slightly from a mother who’s had twins or singletons, because on average, a mother of triplets will gain about 65 pounds. The two things you have to consider is that – the weight gain – and how it affects the abdominal wall, and the heart muscle, because 75%, remember, have been on bed rest, so their cardiac output is going to be different. To correct the abdominal wall issue, because the muscles instead of looking like this might look a little bit like this, they do their abdominal crunches with a corset or a sheet wrapped around where you pull one way and pull the other way to keep it firm while they’re doing their exercises. And in about six weeks those muscles will correct. And then they can go back to baby boot camp and do regular sit-ups. For the heart, you just have to be careful that they ramp up their activities of aerobic exercise postpartum. They can’t go back to marathon running right out the gate. They have to take into consideration their heart rate is going to jump up really fast and they have to take it slow, and maybe walk first or do a stationary bike instead of a cross country ride.
