I think there's two really important things in terms of getting help for postpartum depression. The first and i think the most obvious is you need professional help. And that means talking to a doctor. And maybe it's you OB, maybe it your pediatrician, maybe it's your primary care physician. What matters most is that your really comfortable with, and you can really be honest with about everything that you are going through. Are you sleeping, are you eating, what are your thoughts, what's going through your mind, do you have visions of escaping from your life right now. Somebody that you can really tell the whole truth to because that person can be in the best position to know how to help so that's number one. But I think the second thing is having peers support, and I find this with the work that I do at postpartum progress. com which is mom's who have postpartum depression want to hear from the people in the white coats, but they really want to hear from the other mom's who have been there. They want to be able to talk to at 3 in the morning, virtually speaking to find out, what about this thing that I ask my doctor and why isn't this medicine working. And I thought I was getting better but now suddenly I feel worse. Does this mean I am never got to get better? There is so many questions that you don't get an answer in the brief doctors visit. I think whether coming to a website, whether it is going to a support group and there are many around the country, mom's really need to be around other mom's to totally to get it, what it's like to be in the middle of PPD and kind of hold your hand as you get through that.
