The biggest challenge to overcome when I became a parent was defining who I was from that point on. It's different from even getting married because when you're married your life is sharing your life with someone and when you become a parent just hours of your day become about someone else. And I went through a period where I just...I was really down, really depressed, and trying to figure out the purpose in my life, and it was startling to me, but I think having my son in my life made me think, “If I brought him here, if I was a part of bringing him into this world and I don't know my purpose what can I tell him about his?” And it's taken until this year to realize that because he is here I have purpose, because of him I have meaning, and I think it's just, you know, all the things we've talked about, the sleep deprivation, the trying to get used to adapting to this new marriage you have, having this new human in your house, all these things that is...it's all about redefining who you are. I think for me giving myself some patience, some grace, in these past couple years has lead to a sense of purpose and ultimately joy. I'm more present now with my son than I've ever been.
