A woman might have pain in the vaginal or rectal tissues postpartum, or even postmenopausal, or in pregnancy, for a variety of reasons. If their hormone levels are out of whack, not in balance, but there may -- and that is something to talk to your physician about, in terms of what can be done. Also, a physical therapist that is trained in pelvic floor muscle rehabilitation and women's health, can help to show a woman what they can do with their own soft tissues, to make them feel better. Those tissues can actually feel better, so they can have sexual relations; whether its with themselves or with their partner, and feel comfortable. They shouldn't have to feel pain. Sometimes pain will come when there is some kind of trauma during labor and delivery. It might be a fissure or a cut or something that is causing the irritation. Even hemorrhoids can cause tremendous pain and irritation. It could be genital irritation and tissue swelling. You should not be having sexual relations and pain or feel pain at any time, sitting or with exercise. There is help.
