How to Be… (A Guide for Moms)

how to be a designer

There’s nothing more rewarding than motherhood, but it has its challenges. As a mother, it’s your job to make sure that your child grows up to be the best person that they can be. While the task may seem intimidating, it’s not as hard as you might think. As long as you try your best and listen to the experts, your child will grow up to be someone extraordinary. Naturally, you want your children to be safe, healthy, and happy as they grow up, so take a look at these seven important things that every mother should know how to do.

How to Be Trustworthy and Dependable

If you make a promise or say that you’ll do something, then you should make an effort to follow through. Your children depend on you for emotional support and healthy growth, so if they know that they can trust you, they’ll be more likely to turn to you when they need help. When your child tells you something in confidence, don’t share it with everyone.

While some things need to be passed along for the sake of your child’s safety, you want to make sure that your child is comfortable enough to approach you when she has a problem. Furthermore, you should honor your obligations and promises to everyone else. If your children notice that you make empty promises to friends and family members, then they will assume that you’d do the same to them, and they may even emulate your behavior.

How to Be Someone Who Gives Good Advice

Before offering any input, make sure that you actually listen. You may be tempted to chime in when you hear something troubling, but if you interrupt your kid when they're speaking to you, they’ll think that you don’t value what they say. Sometimes, you won’t immediately know how to help your child, and that’s ok. Instead of offering subpar advice as a knee-jerk reaction, take some time to think about it and get back to them. It’s better to wait for good advice than get bad advice on demand.

If you think that a friend or family member could provide a good perspective, then don’t be afraid to ask for their help. Before giving any advice, try to see things from your child’s perspective. His life experience is not the same as yours, so you should carefully consider the context of his situation to provide the most useful advice.

How to Be an Interior Designer

Your home’s interior should be set up to accommodate your child’s needs, but that doesn’t mean that it has to be ugly. Children like to play and run around, so try to arrange your furniture to give them plenty of space. Aside from being beautiful, houseplants filter the air and provide essential oxygen, making your entire family healthier. Art and décor should be inspirational and exciting, so try to avoid drab colors and frightening images. A mom can turn a house into a home, whether she is formally trained or not, although taking interior design courses can turn a hobby into a career opportunity. Once you learn how to be an interior designer, your family can find a level of calm and belonging at home above and beyond what most families find.

How to Be Fun and Exciting

Kids need to be entertained. Otherwise, they will be miserable. As a parent, it’s your duty to play an authoritative role in your child’s life, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t let loose and have a good time. If your kids want to try something new, then try to indulge them. Instead of doing nothing on the weekends, try to plan an exciting trip or family event. You’ll find that when you look for fun, it’s easy to find.

Most kids talk a lot, and they usually drop hints about their hobbies and interests, so you should pay close attention to what your children are saying. Your kids want to know that they’re being heard, and even if you’ve had a long day, you should do your best to listen. Like any relationship, your relationship with your child will benefit greatly from good listening skills.

How to Be the Lunchbox Champion

Even if your kids haven’t explicitly stated what they like to eat, it’s usually not hard to tell. What lunch items are they most excited about? Which dishes do they gobble up in a flash? When preparing your child’s lunchbox, remember to pack foods that will keep well and are tasty when cold. For the sake of your child’s health, remember to pack a balanced meal. A lunch box should contain all of the nutrients that your child’s body needs to function properly, so try to make every item count.

How to Be a Good Role Model

Your children will pick up on your habits and behaviors, so if you do something immoral or unhealthy, they may follow in your footsteps. Smoking, swearing, eating junk food, and unkindness are habits that you don’t want your kids to develop. It may be hard to kick some of these habits, but it’s worth the effort to try. Even if you don’t succeed the first time, your children will notice your dedication and resolution, and it will show them that hard work and determination pay off.
