Don't Let COVID-19 Steal Your Family's Summer Fun!

Family's Summer Fun

It's time to have some actual fun with your family instead of just watching hours and hours of Netflix every night. The COVID-19 pandemic has left us all nervous, anxious, and bored. But it's time to fight back with some good, old-fashioned, family fun!

Now that it's summer, there are plenty of ways to get outside and have some fun -- but you can even enjoy your time indoors as long as you're together as a family. Here are some great activities to try this summer in order to strengthen your family bond and have some fun:

Go on a family camping trip

Family camping trips can be a lot of fun and can result in great memories that will you all will cherish for the rest of your lives.

Simply hook up your camper's hitch to your trailer and get towing! It's important to note that two-Point systems can be used with trailers that have hydraulic brakes.

If you have little ones who might not be able to handle hiking, fishing, or roughing it in the middle of the woods, fear not! You could always lock up your home, set up a tent out in the backyard, cook up some s'mores, and have a great night with the family!

Check out a virtual museum

If you do have to quarantine for a few weeks, don't get too down. You won't be able to travel or do cool things outside your home, but you can still go on adventures from your living room. Thanks to technology, families can visit the most beautiful places on earth from their couch!

Checking out cool pieces of art isn't just fun, but it also can be very therapeutic. Art Therapy was actually discovered in the 1940s and has been a growing industry ever since!

Plant a family garden

Another great way to have some fun in your own home is to start spending more time in your garden! Even if all you have is a few piles of mulch and a flower or two, that's a great start. You and the kids can have fun for hours tending to your garden, planting, watering, and pruning everything in sight.

Make sure you make a trip or two to your local hardware store beforehand so you can acquire all the necessary tools. A good garden hose should last five to 10 years.

Host a family Olympic game night

It's time to put away everyone's cellphones and turn off the TV for the day/night. It's time for the first annual Family Olympic Game Night!

Here are some great game ideas for your next family Olympic game night:

  • Water Balloon Relay -- You can all decide how eccentric you want this relay race to be, but the only rule is it has to be fun! Start with the children and watch them laugh and race around the yard or the kitchen with water balloons. If you have really young kids, you might want to have them go last because those water balloons will absolutely not make it to the finish line!
  • Kitchen Spelling Game -- Have each member of your family randomly add two or three words, toss them all in a hat, and let the fun begin. All you have to do is reach into the hat and pull out a word. Next, as soon as someone starts the timer (maybe 30 seconds to one minute), start gathering random items around the kitchen and spelling out the word on the table. You can use spatulas, silverware, milk jugs, salt shakers, cereal boxes, and anything else that you can think of. Just have fun with it!
  • Water Pong -- You might have played a certain version of this game in college, but it can easily be just as fun with cups of water and some eager participants! If you're unfamiliar with the game, simply place six cups on each end of the table in a diamond, fill them up with a little bit of water, and have two players on each side of the table toss ping pong balls, paper clips, or pennies into the cups. The first team to make all their cups wins the gold!

It's been a weird, stressful, and even downright scary few months. All across the country, families are in need of some fun activities more than ever before.

It's time to come together as a family and have some fun making new, long-lasting memories! Enjoy!
