A night terror, when your child wakes up in the middle of the night, without being really awake. She or he screams like a person out of control. The first time it happened to me and my husband, our son was about one and a half, we instantly took him out of the crib because we were afraid he was hurt or something. Unfortunately, that just made it worse. He just kept on screaming. It was almost like he was fighting us. So after a few minutes, we decided to put him back in the crib and just watch him to make sure that nothing happened. He kept screaming for about thirty minutes. That's a really long time when you are a terrified parent, but after thirty minutes, it was like nothing had happened. He just fell back to sleep like a normal child. In the morning, he had no recollection of it. That's the advice we got, don't talk to them about it because they don't know what happened. Night terrors are not dangerous for the child, but it's quite terrifying for a parent.
