My golden nugget of parenting advice really has to do with - it's an ironic bit of advice, actually. It has to do with embracing both confidence and humility. That's what I've had to do and I find that that's what's helped me most as a parent. That I need to be confident and listen to my gut as I navigate all these crazy adventures of parenting, but I also need to accept that the world has its own ideas about what it has in store for my children and I don't control all the things that happen to them. I don't control how their life plays out.
So it requires a lot of humility to understand that I am really not determining their futures. I am helping guide it. I am helping them learn what they need to learn and gain those skills they need to become independent humans, and after that, it's really up to the world. So I am really trying to embrace that. I think that can give us a feeling of freedom as we raise our children, because there's such a sense that we need to do it all perfectly and we need to do it all right, but really, they are also learning. And the world has got so much to teach them that they're getting independent from us.
