Emergency preparedness can be tackled in three easy steps: "Get a kit, make a plan, and be informed." With your kit, the four most important items to start with are water, food, a first-aid kit, and medications. With your plan, we want to think about the "Rule of Two": Choose two meeting places, two evacuation routes, practice it twice a year. When you're practicing those two times a year, check your emergency kit--check your supplies. Being informed, probably the first place you'd want to start is those protective actions. For earthquake, we drop, cover, and hold on. For home fires, we get out and stay out, we crawl low in smoke, and we stop, drop and roll if we catch on fire. Those are great protective actions to start with. Get a kit, make a plan, and be informed. For a full list of details on how to complete those three steps, visit RedCross.org.
