Really the absolute limit to using a woman´s own eggs are menopause, when she no longer has any eggs. However, in common practice, we are often limited by the effects of aging, which are quantitative and qualitative. And as a result of those two things, the inefficacy as we age to conceive even with high tech assisted reproductive technologies such as invitro fertilization. So for example, a woman that is 45 will have a likelihood of conception of less than 5%. It is generally around this time that if they still want to conceive and have been unsuccessful, that we will have a discussion about egg donation or oo site donation. There are other reasons why women beyond the age of 40 may also consider egg donation. But typically it is a discussion when there has been a realization that the number or the quality of the eggs are no longer sufficient.
