First of all, you cannot prevent a tween from growing up fast. We live in a day and age where they are going to grow up fast. Cell phones, the internet, what they see on tv, what they see in magazines. What they see us, as parents, being involved in all contribute to their growing up quickly. It's part of the day and age we live in. One of the things you can try and deal with that is to do the best you can to let your kids be kids. You go to the beach nowadays, and you see these little kids in these sexy little bikinis. This isn't appropriate. These are the things that contribute to that mindset. There are things you can do to control that, other things; you can't. The things you can control, take advantage of those opportunities. Stay engaged with them. Have family vacations. Have family activities. Occupy their time as much as you can. Involve their friends in your family activities. Don't always have them running off with their friends. It is the best way for you to monitor their maturity process.
