Getting the kids involved in organization and maintenance is really important. The way to do that is to have them involved in the creation of the systems and the processes. I really like to have them pick out labels and maybe they want to use pictures as labels. It really just depends on the age of the child, where they're at, what sort of category that you're creating. But I find that when I'm able to get the kids involved, there's more buy in on their part, and they feel like they've created part of it. And it gets them, hopefully excited. So I think that's a really great way to get the kids involved in the organizing process. Another way to get the kids involved is to let them pick out songs. Maybe they want to pick out 3 songs, which equals 15 minutes, which is the perfect amount of time for clean up. It's not an overwhelming amount of time. I like to stay with the same 3 songs. That way when they hear those songs, they know it's clean up time. But that's another fun way to get the kids involved. When I am organizing my own stuff, I like to have accountability. I like to have accountability when I work out. Most of us like to have accountability when we're doing stuff. They want someone to be there when they're doing their chores. So maybe you're not helping them do it, but you're hanging out with them, maybe even asking them questions as they're putting stuff away. It just helps the process and shows them that accountability really helps get things done.
