People ask me because I'm a priest what my thoughts are on gay marriage and what the church should do about gay marriage. And my opinion is that the church should treat gay marriage just like we treat any other marriage. As a priest, one of the most wonderful privileges of my life is to be able to preside and celebrate the marriage of one person to another. And I don't really see any difference between straight marriage and gay marriage. I do think that there are opportunities as a faith community or a faith tradition as a priest or a pastor to advise couples as they engage in the process of marrying each other. To me, what we see in Hollywood on movies at marriage ceremonies is I do. I do marry you. But what we have in the liturgy of marriage, within the context of marriage is I will. I will keep marrying you every day until the day that one of us dies. It's a practice that we engage. And it doesn't matter if we're gay or straight. It matters that we pick up marriage. That we pick up love every day. And we continue to marry our partners every day, gay or straight.
