Physical exercise is critical for all children. My colleague, John Ratey, wrote a book called, "Spark: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain." He shows the tremendous benefit that physical exercise confers upon the brain; the rest of the body as well. For kids with ADD, it is particularly important. In fact, one of the best treatments for ADD is regular, vigorous physical exercise. Never hold these kids in for recess. Always let them have sports. I recommend having them sit on exercise balls rather than chairs, give them a little sponge so they can move their fingers. They need to have movements. They need to have outlets for neurological overflow that so often accompanies ADHD. Absolutely critical. Sometimes exercise is the only treatment you need, if you get it regularly and vigorously enough.
